If you would like to play a part in this research project, all you need to do is email us the information you have on the apprentice and the family tree they fit into to apprenticehistory@gmail.com

This is a dedicated email account created for this project. We check it regularly, and are grateful for your help.

As of July 2021, we have received information on more than 200 apprentices and their families, and we are always keen to learn about more.

What information do we need?

Simple: we just need the relevant section of the family tree and the record of any apprentices (the guild/city, date, and master) that you found.

If you have information that makes you confident about the connection, such as a will or letter, then please do mention that too.

You can send us all or part of your family tree. We will be grateful for any information you share!

What format should I use to share information with you?

If possible, please send us a gedcom file or a family tree. We are most interested in the two or three generations above and below the ancestor so we can see their uncles and aunts and first and second cousins (if you know them), and information about the apprentices own marriage, death and any children! But if it is easier to send us everything, then please do.

If you don’t use software that produces a gedcom file, then please share the information you have in the easiest form for you.

What will we do with your data?

All data provided will be used solely for academic research. We will not share, disseminate or distribute your data beyond our research group. We will not make it publicly available.
